I am asking this because I am having a bit of a debate with my 13 year old daughter . I personally think 15 or even 16 is too young to date a 20 year old man.
Problem is one of the idols of many teen age girls is doing the same thing

I have tried to explain that celebrities are not like the rest of us and often do questionable things and get away with it because of their fame. I told her many normal parents would agree with me… that in most cases that is too big of an age gap for a teenage girl.
BTW this is not an attack on Miley. I may not agree with her dating life, I know that is her business but I do not want my teen daughter to think it is the norm.
Hollywood is not real. It never has been, but it has a disturbingly real effect on what our kids come to believe if we don’t supervise their TV watching. Hollywood romanticizes bad things. What’s real is teenage girls being victimized by older men who control and beat them up. What’s real is a 15 year old girl trying to get pregnant because she feels unloved by her family and wants a baby to lavish her love on. What’s real is a girl running away to New York or Hollywood to become a star but finding herself victimized by a pimp who puts her out on the street. The movie Pretty Woman, about a street walker who lands herself a millionaire, is a modern take on the Cinderella story, but it just doesn’t happen. In real life, she would end up with Aids or some other sexually transmitted disease, become addicted to heroine and die on the streets.
This is what you tell your daughter and back it up with newspaper and magazine articles you can find in abundance on the internet.

It’s Miley Cyrus for god sake. She’s not a role model at all. If I had kids, I wouldn’t let my underaged daughter date an older guy, especially not a 15 year old and a 20 year old. What? He can’t get girls his own age? Something is wrong there.
My boyfriend was 20 when i was 15. We’ve been together since i was 13 actually and he was 18, He’s 4 1/2 years older than me, but we were completely supervised until i turned 16. We never even thought about sex until that point cause it was illegal. Then when i was 16 i got pregnant. Now i’m 17 and 22 weeks pregnant, and yes my boyfriend is still here, but that doesn’t mean any other guy would be. Ask your daughter if she thinks its ok to be a mom at 17, when your still trying to finish high school. This is hard for me, I’m proud of my decision to keep my child and be the best mother i can, but im not gonna sit there and promote it in the least bit. This is a hard life to try living at such a young age, most people think that teens get pregnant on purpose to keep their boyfriends and u know, maybe some do, but i’ve been with my guy for 3 years. I didn’t need a baby to keep him here, this was an accident, a beautiful accident, but still, an accident, and now because i couldn’t just wait till after high school, i’m gonna be a mom in December, and im still expected to graduate this year.
Um no because the age difference is way too big & that illegal cause she is still a child & he is an adult.
Its a celeb. Their only doin it to be more famous…. Your kid is soo young don’t let her date a 2oyo . cause he’ll want is sex and prob turn her into a little whore.. Good luck
Speaking as a 20 year old guy a 15 year old, mmm. If I fell in love with her and she was mature…maybe, a big maybe that is.
Though I wouldn’t feel comfortable with it in the back of my head at all and I bet when I talk with a 15 year old I would soon notice she’s still just a child and probably has a pretty simplistic world view.
I would feel much more comfortable with 17+.
