We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of dating. Let’s take a look:
If a guy says he hung out w/ a girl, and she says they dated, which one do you believe?
All either believed the guy or were neutral and admitted that they wouldn’t know. No one believed the girl. Even though guys are better known for telling untruths when it comes to the opposite sex.
In addition to this poll, it seems to be the case in what I have witnessed in real life. Other people take the guy’s word over the girl’s when it comes to "where we stand" or "stood."
Why? I’d even understand if someone said "they’re probably both saying the same thing, but have different definitions of what those words mean." Or "the truth is somewhere in the middle." –the last two statements are the truth, as well as the "we’ll never know bc we weren’t there." but a lot of ppl believe the guy and NO ONE believes the girl. WHYYY?

"Even though guys are better known for telling untruths "
I stopped reading there
Get back in the kitchen!
Usually people will believe the person who is the least committal. Usually that person is the guy, but sometimes it is the girl.
If the guy says that we "dated", but the girl says that we just hung out as friends, then most people will assume that the guy was delusional, and he is kidding himself. Ever listen to the song by the Doobie Brothers, "What a Fool Believes"? People in love see what they want to see.
Otherwise, friends of the guy will usually believe the guy, and friends of the girl will usually believe the girl.
Reverse it and see what responses you get.
Your poll was hardly scientific. Only two people said they’d believe the guy, one person said neutral, and one person (myself) said something similar to your last paragraph.
To be honest, they are both probably telling their own interpretation of what occured. In the end, it only matters to the individuals involved and not to anyone else.
I think lying in itself is very subjective. You and I both see the same "realities" through our own individual experiences and beliefs. If we individually view the same event differently, does that make my own interpretation a lie simply because you saw it differently? No - it’s 100% true to me.
Is one "reality" really better than the next?
